WSU Slates Horsemen's Conference
PULLMAN, Wash. -- A Kansas horse judging coach will keynote the 1st Annual Washington State University Horsemen's Conference at the Grant County Fairgrounds, Moses Lake, Saturday, Oct. 5.
Betsy Greene, WSU equine extension specialist, said the day-long conference also includes nutrition, equine health and teaching equine welfare to youth and a trade show.
Registration begins at 8 a.m., the program at 8:45 a.m. Randel Raub, a Kansas State University professor, will talk on teaching youth how to judge horses.
Other topics are;
--"Nutritional Needs: The Equine Athlete vs. The Pasture Ornament," by Stephen Duren, Kentucky Equine Research.
--"Equine Health Care Issues," Melissa Hines, WSU College of Veterinary Medicine.
--"Proactive Methods of Teaching Equine Welfare to Youth," Betsy Greene, WSU.
Greene says conference booths will give retailers and organizations an opportunity to promote themselves.
Saturday afternoon all participants will have an opportunity to practice judging methods learned from Raub's lecture with live horses.
Registration is $5 per person, at the door. No pre-registration is required. The event is sponsored by the WSU Collegiate Horsemen's Association, a student club.
