Ag Outlook Conference Nov. 25 at Pasco

PULLMAN, Wash. -- Likely 1998 market conditions for major commodities produced on Eastern Washington farms and ranches will be the focus of the 1997 Agricultural Outlook Conference, Tuesday, Nov. 25 at the Doubletree Inn at Pasco.

Economists and other industry observers will offer their views on market prospects for forages, apples, potatoes, grains, grapes, livestock and milk.

Michael J. Parks, editor and publisher of Marple's Business Newsletter, will offer observations on the outlook for the nation's economy.

Harry Hartman, founder and president of The Hartman Group, Bellevue, will talk about current trends in consumer attitudes at a luncheon presentation.

Other topics:

--Factors influencing the growth of the vegetable processing industry;

--Leasing and orchard development;

--Dairying, another industry in the midst of change;

--Implications for agriculture of mergers and consolidations in banking;

--Making water policy--who wants what: a look at non-agricultural interests.

Registration starts at 7:45 a.m.; the first session at 8:30 am. Cost is $50 for registrations received no later than Nov. 21. Afterwards and at the door, the fee will be $65. Registration forms are available at most Washington State University Cooperative Extension offices in eastern Washington.
