Satellite Teleconference on Composting Scheduled Nov. 5

PULLMAN, Wash. -- A satellite teleconference on composting is scheduled at 8:45 a.m., Nov. 5, at the Washington State University Tree Fruit Research and Extension Center in Wenatchee.

The two-hour broadcast:  "Composting: A Tool for Western Agriculture," will include film coverage of composting sites in the West and a live question and answer period with a panel of composting experts.

Case studies highlight key issues, such as the economic and environmental impacts of composting for on-farm waste management, opportunities for composting to increase farm revenues and the nuisances and limitations of on-farm composting.

The workshop will run from 8:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.  A discussion of composting opportunities in central Washington will follow the broadcast.

"While agricultural professionals are the prime audience," said David Granatstein, project leader with the WSU Center for Sustaining Agriculture and Natural Resources, "just about anybody interested in composting should benefit by attending."

Contact Granatstein at (509) 663-8181, ext. 222 for more information about the satellite teleconference and to register.  The registration fee is $15 for people registering by Oct. 20.  After that date, the fee will be $20. The fee includes the cost of handout materials.

The broadcast is the first in a three-part series of composting teleconferences sponsored by the Education and Resources for Western Agriculture.
