WSU Hosts Fourth Annual Horse Conference
PULLMAN, Wash. -- Washington State University's College of Veterinary Medicine and the College of Agriculture and Home Economics will host the Fourth Annual Horseman's Conference on Saturday, Oct. 16.
The conference will be held in the Compton Union Building, CUB Ballroom located on the Pullman campus.
The daylong event features several brief lectures by veterinarians and equine experts each concerning various aspects of horse care important to today's horse owner. Topics include new technologies for diagnosing lameness, contemporary nutritional concerns and neonatal care for mares and foals.
Warwick Bayly, professor and chair of the department of veterinary clinical sciences, and others will discuss "tying up," a term used to describe several muscle diseases of horses known collectively as equine rhabdomyolysis, and how it can lead to other diseases in your animal.
Bayly's talk will shed light on this disease in horses and how current research shows it to be related to nutrition, genetics and conditioning.
A trade show will contain both private and nonprofit vendors. Tours also are scheduled for the veterinary teaching hospital throughout the day.
