Wind Erosion Research Review Nov. 30-Dec. 1
PULLMAN, Wash. The annual research review of the Columbia Plateau Wind Erosion/Air Quality Project is scheduled Nov. 30-Dec. 1 at the Spokane Valley Doubletree, N. 1100 Sullivan Rd., Veradale.
Scientists from Washington State University and the U.S. Department of Agriculture as well as Northwest farmers will discuss air quality issues, experiences, agricultural emissions, policies, the physics of wind erosion and research into wind erosion control methods.
Scheduled speakers include Gary Peterson, professor of soil and crop sciences at Colorado State University. Peterson is known internationally for cropping systems research for erosion control, according to Bill Schillinger, WSU agronomist and project co-leader.
"We are very pleased to have a person of his caliber to participate in our meeting," Schillinger said.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 30. The public is welcome. A two-day $65 registration fee covers the cost of the meeting, one lunch, a dinner banquet and coffee breaks. Thursday only is $40. Contact Cindy Warriner at (509) 659-3214 or warrin@wsu.edu for more information and to register.

The Columbia Plateau Wind Erosion/Air Quality Project is designed to address problems of windblown dust in the Inland Northwest, particularly particles 10 microns in size and smaller that can lodge in the lungs and lead to health problems.
