LIND, Wash. -- Eastern Washington farmers will examine the latest research for dryland wheat production at the Horse Heaven Hills Research Field Day, Thursday, June 6, at the Horse Heaven Community Hall.
The Horse Heaven Hills field tour will be from 8:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. The tour bus will leave the Horse Heaven Community Hall at 8:45 a.m. The hall is on County Well Road, just east of Highway 221, between Prosser and Patterson.
Participants will see field research plots and receive reports on dryland cropping systems, spring wheat breeding, winter wheat breeding, soil changes over time, and Russian thistle control in wheat. The Horse Heavens receives less precipitation than any other dryland wheat region of the world.
Speakers include WSU and USDA-Agricultural Research Service scientists Bill Schillinger, Kim Kidwell, Steve Jones, Joe Yenish, Steve Albrecht, John Burns and Brady Carter.
The Benton County Wheat Growers Association will host a lunch at the community hall. No pre-registration is required.
