Horse Heaven Wheat Research Tour Set June 6

LIND, Wash. -- Eastern Washington farmers will examine the latest research for dryland wheat production at the Horse Heaven Hills Research Field Day, Thursday, June 6, at the Horse Heaven Community Hall.

"It doesn't get any drier than this," says Washington State University research agronomist Bill Schillinger. WSU's Horse Heaven research plots are in the driest area in the world that produces wheat. Schillinger said average precipitation in the area is 6 inches a year.

Schillinger said the Horse Heaven Hills field tour will be from 8:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. The tour bus will leave the Horse Heaven Community Hall at 8:45 a.m. The hall is on County Well Road, just east of Highway 221, between Prosser and Patterson.

Participants include WSU and USDA-Agricultural Research Service scientists Bill Schillinger, Kim Kidwell, Steve Jones, Joe Yenish, Steve Albrecht, John Burns and Brady Carter.

The Benton County Wheat Growers Association will host a lunch at the community hall. No pre-registration is required.

For more information, contact Schillinger at (509) 235-1933, or by e- mail at schillw@wsu.edu.
