WSU Celebrates Home Ec Centennial

PULLMAN, Wash. -- Washington State University will kick off its three-day Home Economics Centennial Reunion with a reception at 4 p.m., Thursday, Sept., 25, in the WSU Lewis Alumni Centre.

The reunion celebrates 100 years of home economics education at the university.

"Our celebration highlights the varied, many and unique careers, activities and leadership roles of home economics alums," said Marge Muir, Pullman, centennial committee co-chair.

Friday's program will include presentations on understanding the role of dolls and play in brain development; a showcase of department programs, research and future challenges; van tours of home economics facilities on campus, including a visit to the newly renovated White Hall.

The centennial banquet will be at 6 p.m., Friday. The program will include a visual walk Through a Century of Home Economics at WSU, recognition of unique careers and group photo sessions.

Saturday's session begins at 9 a.m. with a program, "Looking to the Future." It will include a technology forum, a presentation on distance learning and new classroom opportunities and a closing brunch presentation featuring "A Century of Scholarship for Our Future."

Muir said alums, faculty and staff will share their reflections and outlook for the profession.
