WSU Honors Soil Scientist
PULLMAN, Wash. -- Craig Cogger, Washington State University extension soil scientist, received the university's 16th annual Kenneth J. Morrison Award in Agronomy and Soils here today.
The award recognizes WSU Cooperative Extension faculty for significant contributions to agronomic crop production and soil management.
Cogger, who is stationed in Puyallup, was honored for his work to improve soil and water quality, and to facilitate recycling of organic wastes.
Cogger's program links soils-based research with community problems within the broad areas of waste management, water quality and sustainable agriculture.
In nominating Cogger, Donald Tapio, WSU area extension educator, Elma, Grays Harbor County, said: "Dr. Cogger has been an extremely valuable resource to extension faculty throughout the state and is also nationally recognized for his expertise in recycling solid waste."
The Morrison award was presented at the field day of WSU's Spillman Agronomy Farm. Cogger received a plaque and a check for $500.
The award honors the memory of Kenneth J. Morrison who served as WSU extension agronomist from 1950 to 1987.
