Potato Scientists to Convene in Spokane
PULLMAN, Wash. -- The lowly potato, the world's favorite tuber, will be in the lime light for five days in Spokane, Aug. 10-14, as scientists gather to report their research at the 87th annual meeting of The Potato Association of America.
Nearly 300 strong, they will come from around the world; from Russia, the Netherlands, Northern Ireland, Nova Scotia, Scotland, Mexico, Brazil, Peru, South Korea, and potato-producing regions of the United States.
Robert Thornton, WSU extension horticulturist and conference co- chair, said topics will range from breeding through production, storage,
processing and marketing. Nearly 150 reports on scientific research will be made.
A special one-day registration is available for growers and others in the potato industry to attend a production-oriented program on Tuesday, the 12th. More information and on-line registration is available at http://www.paa2003.wsu.edu/.
Meetings will be at the Red Lion Hotel at the Park.
