WSU Sets Public Meeting on New Land Sale Policy
A new Washington State University policy regarding the sale of university property will be the subject of a public meeting in Puyallup.
The policy will provide local governments and nonprofit organizations the first option to purchase university property offered for sale.
The meeting will be Wed., Sept. 3, from 6:30 p.m. -- 7:30 p.m. at the Allmendinger Center at the WSU Puyallup Research & Extension Center. The Center is located at 7612 Pioneer Way E. in Puyallup.
The new policy establishes procedures by which city and county governments and nonprofit community conservation organizations will be offered the first opportunity to purchase sensitive properties before they are marketed publicly.
University officials will be on hand to present details of the new policy and to respond to questions.
WSU is considering the sale of certain properties in part because of the current state budget situation. While the university has a responsibility to the state's taxpayers to obtain fair market value for its assets, it also recognizes the importance of open space preservation within the neighboring communities.
