Beef Information Day Slated for Jan. 17

OKANOGAN, Wash. - The second annual Washington State University Okanogan County Extension Beef Information Day is slated for Jan. 17 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Okanogan Inn & Suites in Okanogan.

The purpose of the Beef Information Day is to provide research-based information to Central Washington livestock producers so that they may improve their economic status and quality of life while creating a quality product in a sustainable manner.

Topics and presenters include:

  • Mandatory country of origin labeling by WSU Extension Livestock Economist Shannon Neibergs;
  • Strategies for surviving difficult financial times by Tim Bodine, president of Performix Nutrition Systems;
  • Report on the first year of the BVD pilot project by JohnWenz, WSU College of Veterinary Medicine;
  • Risk management planning by WSU Okanogan County Extension director, Norman Suverly;
  • The new herd health record book funded by the Beef Quality Assurance program by Dale Moore, WSU College of Veterinary Medicine; and
  • Local producers’ marketing strategies, a panel discussion.

Registration is $15 at the door and includes a BBQ beef lunch, refreshments and a copy of the 2009 Beef Management calendar. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. The program begins at 10 a.m. An RSVP to WSU Okanogan County Extension is appreciated to aid them in meal planning.
