WSU Snohomish County Extension Offers Opportunity for Climate Change Discussion
EVERETT, Wash. -- Americans concerned about climate change can participate in a national discussion of potential solutions that also can revitalize our communities and economies. Washington State University Snohomish County Extension is offering the public the opportunity to participate in a live interactive web cast that is part of a national teach-in on climate change solutions.
Called “The 2% Solution,” the web cast will be presented on Wednesday, Jan. 30, starting at 5 p.m. in the Cougar Auditorium of the WSU Snohomish County Extension office at 600 128th Street S.E. in Everett.
The web cast is part of a national teach-in organized by the educational initiative Focus the Nation. More than 1,000 college and university campuses nationally have signed up to participate in the teach-in on global warming solutions on Jan. 31. Organizers say that will make it the largest teach-in ever held.
“The 2% Solution” offers the opportunity for people across the country to participate in a serious discussion of global warming solutions and potential economic opportunities in a single evening. Participants will be able to join Stanford University climate scientist Stephen Schneider, sustainability expert Hunter Lovins, green jobs pioneer Van Jones, and youth climate leaders for a lively discussion of potential climate change solutions.
Following the web cast members of the WSU Extension Forestry program, Beach Watchers program, and Master Gardeners will be available to answer questions and facilitate discussions among community members. Members of the Snohomish County Climate Change Initiative will be on hand to bring a local perspective to the discussion.
The evening’s final activity will be the “Choose Your Future”vote. All participants will be encouraged to vote on what they think are the top five solutions from a list that will be available after Jan. 21 at www.focusthenation.org. Students who vote will automatically be in the running for a $10,000 leadership scholarship.
The 4-H Natural Resources and Forestry program is hosting the event. The program also is working with people interested in youth programs for climate change.
