Farmer Field Day and Picnic Slated at the WSU-Mount Vernon NWREC

MOUNT VERNON, Wash. – Members of northwestern Washington’s agricultural community are invited to participate in the annual field day and picnic at the Washington State University-Mount Vernon Northwestern Washington Research and Extension Center. The event will feature tours of field research trials, a picnic dinner, and meetings of the Northwest Agricultural Research Foundation and other crop research advisory groups.

The NWREC field research tour will get underway at 4 p.m. on Thursday, July 10, at the Treehouse on the NWREC campus located at 16650 State Route 536 (Old Memorial Highway). The picnic dinner will begin at 6 p.m.

Concurrent research advisory meetings for various crops are scheduled around the field tour and picnic. The meetings are an opportunity for growers to discuss their priorities for agricultural research with WSU scientists.

At 2 p.m. the advisory meetings for vegetable seed crops, and tree fruits/alternative crops/wine will be held. Those interested in ornamental bulb crops will meet at 3 p.m. At 7 p.m. the peas and cucumbers, potatoes, and organic research groups will meet.

The event will provide an opportunity for the community to meet new NWREC faculty and hear about their latest research, as well as to share information and ideas on research priorities as WSU scientists prepare for the upcoming grant proposal-writing season.

All members of the agricultural industry are welcome free of charge. Please RSVP to the WSU-Mount Vernon NWREC at 360-848-6143.
