An editorial in Tuesday’s Seattle Times criticized state House budget writers for excluding funding for the Research Stars program that the Legislature approved last year. The program includes significant research programs at WSU and UW.
A news release from the Washington State Department of Agriculture reported that the state’s agricultural exports grew by 38 percent in 2007.
SeedQuest reported on Thursday on the release by WSU of four new wheat varieties.
Thursday’s Puyallup Herald included a story on the history of the annual Sewing and Stitchery Expo held at the Puyallup Fairgrounds. The Tacoma News Tribune also published a brief item promoting the Expo.
A regular garden column in Wednesday’s Seattle Post Intelligencer focused on the fundraising efforts to support the Western Washington Fruit Research Foundation display garden located at NWREC, and also discusses WSU’s organic research.
Thursday’s Yakima Herald-Republic included a brief item about IAREC’s Marcus Keller and Lynn Mills receiving the Best Paper Award from the American Journal of Enology and Viticulture.
On Monday the Wenatchee World published last week’s Associated Press story on the WSU/UW collaboration to map the apple genome.
